Why Basking Ridge Families Choose Pups And Recreation

Basking Ridge is a commuter town wrapped around a historic village. Families here catch the Gladstone Branch at Basking Ridge or Lyons station, work at campuses like Verizon's headquarters, and drive I-78, I-287, and US 202. Next door, Harding Township's New Vernon is estate country. We serve both, with routes planned around local park rules, including Great Swamp, where dogs are much more restricted than most people expect.

Three reasons Basking Ridge clients pick Pups and Recreation:

  • An ADB Certified Canine Behavior Counselor on Call.

Meredith Kiani holds the Association of Dog Behaviorists' Certified Canine Behavior Counselor credential and is a New Jersey Animal Control Officer. If your Basking Ridge dog is reactive, anxious, or still settling in after adoption, we don't just walk them, we structure each walk to support behavior progress. Most dog walkers have zero formal behavior training. We have a certified expert on call and a team ready to support that work.
  • We meet you and your dog in person first.

Every new Basking Ridge client starts with a free meet-and-greet at home. We walk through feeding, leash storage, alarm codes, medications, and emergency contacts, then set up our app so you can book, pay, and get photo and GPS report cards after every visit.
  • No Holiday or Weekend Rates. No Credit Card Fees. Ever.

Many local competitors charge $15–$25 extra for holidays, plus weekend premiums and a 3% credit-card processing fee. We don't. Our rate on July 4th is the same as our rate on a Tuesday in March, for every Basking Ridge client.
  • Open 7am to 9pm. 365 days a year. Our Team is available!

We are there when you need it most. No need to check our availability or schedule! Whether its a same day appointment or vacation next year we can make it happen. Just simply book on our app and we’ll take care of the rest!

Basking Ridge Parks, Trails & Walking Routes We Know

Bernards and Harding have excellent walking. These are the routes we use, plus a few local rules every dog owner should know:

  • Pleasant Valley Park — Valley Road. Walking trails and a fishing pond, with open space for relaxed, sniff-heavy walks.
  • Mountain Park — Mountain Road & Martinsville Road. Paved paths and wooded trails that suit both puppies and high-energy dogs.
  • Dunham Park — Somerville Road & Liberty Corner Road, Liberty Corner. Open fields and walking paths for longer, steady walks.
  • Paws Park Dog Run — War Memorial Athletic Complex, South Maple Avenue. Bernards Township's dog run for off-leash play, used only with your permission.
  • Loantaka Brook Reservation — Extends into Harding Township. 850+ acres of paved and wooded trails we use for our 90-Minute Solo Trail Walks.
  • Jockey Hollow (Morristown National Historical Park) — Next to Bernardsville, a short drive north. Miles of wooded National Park trails for adventure walks (leash required).

A note on Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge: pets are allowed only on Pleasant Plains Road and in the parking areas, never on the refuge trails or boardwalks. That's why we use Loantaka and Jockey Hollow for trail walks. Whether you're in the village, Liberty Corner, or New Vernon, we'll plan a route that fits your dog.

Basking Ridge NJ FAQs

Are you insured and bonded?

Yes. Pups and Recreation carries full commercial liability insurance and is bonded. We can provide a certificate of insurance on request.

Do you walk dogs at midday for Basking Ridge commuters?

Yes. Most commuting clients book a recurring weekday midday walk, and the same small team of walkers covers it every week, with a photo and GPS report card after each visit.

Can you take my dog to the Bernards Township dog run?

No. Paws Park Dog Run is for Bernards Township residents with their own licensed dogs, and professional trainers need a Township commercial use permit. We keep client dogs on leashed walks.

Can you walk my dog at Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge?

Not on the trails. The refuge allows pets only on Pleasant Plains Road and in parking areas, on a leash no longer than 10 feet. Pets aren't allowed on refuge trails, boardwalks, or in the visitor center, so we use Loantaka Brook Reservation and Jockey Hollow instead.

Do you serve Harding Township and New Vernon?

Yes. We serve all of Bernards Township, including Basking Ridge, Liberty Corner, and Lyons, plus Harding Township, New Vernon, and Mount Kemble Lake.

How much does dog walking cost in Basking Ridge, NJ?

Standard dog walks and drop-in visits are $25 for 15 minutes, $35 for 30 minutes, $50 for 45 minutes, $60 for 60 minutes, $85 for 90 minutes, and $150 for 3 hours. Add $5 per additional pet. There are no holiday, weekend, or credit-card surcharges, ever.
