Welcome to Pups and Recreation
For as long as we can remember, animals have been a part of our lives. Whether it was our grandparents' horses and dogs, to our own family dogs, cats, and fish. We've been taking care of animals since we were just little kids. We always seemed to be drawn to the shy and reluctant dogs our friends and family had. Often spending more time trying to win over the pup, than the people at the party.
When we grew up and had fur families of our own, we always knew that we wanted to rescue. We both rescued our first dogs, Simba and Hazel, from High Kill Shelters in Yonkers, and Chattanooga. We knew then, what we know even more now... Some of the best, most compassionate people we know live, breathe, and sleep to rescue dogs. We both did what we could and volunteered at local rescues here and then while pursuing other careers, (Luigi was in Real Estate and Alison was in Nursing School).
When we moved in together in 2020, Alison moving from TN to NJ, we quickly realized how hard it was to find reliable, consistent, pet care for our challenging rescue pups who didn't do well with other dogs. "Professional" or hobbyist pet care prioviders were always booked, or we were "just outside of their service area". We'd been canceled on, not called back, or given a long spiel about higher rates for special cases, weekends, or holidays.
It was too much to ask of friends and family to travel 3 to 4 times a day or uproot their lives and stay at our place...
In June of 2022, we began dog walking and pet sitting as a way to try and pay for our dream wedding in April of 2024 in New Orleans. With just some yellow legal pads and pencil, we were finding pets who needed care, or walks, or just some play time. From puppies to pigs, we were spending all our free time doing what we absolutely loved in the fresh air! We quickly realized not only how much fun we were having, but how fast we were overflowing with weekly and even daily requests. We were burning through yellow legal pads and tennis shoes and walking way too much for 2 people with full time jobs.
So in November of 2022, we went all in and launched our own company: Pups and Recreation LLC! With a team of just 3 of us and our own app to make the process as smooth as possible, we hit the ground running with one thing in mind… Help as many pets get the love and care they deserve, especially the challenging ones!
That’s why we spend all of our free time trying to help as many local rescues as possible. Working not only for your pups, but for all the other pups in need out there.
That’s why we built our team full of pet care professionals and dog walkers who have experience in the rescue world or have previously worked with animals in a professional setting. We need everyone on our team to share our mindset...

Each month, we fundraise for one of these great local causes and donate what we can to help them save as many lives as possible. We host Walkathons every year on various Holidays like Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day and Halloween we donate our entire day to one of these causes, with 100% of all proceeds going directly to them. Since 2022 we've raised over $72,000 and have helped hundreds of pets find their forever homes!
